Evaluation Question 4

Age

The reason why we have made the age rustication is because the use of violence and weapons, these sort of objects should not bee seen to a younger audience as it can be distressing or harmful.

(Such as here when there is a baseball bat used to hit someone)

The terminology (slang) would be hard to understand for someone of a older generation as they have never heard some of the slang and wouldn't understand the meaning thats why its targeted to someone of younger generation and a normal upbringing as also someone who is maybe upper-class wouldn't understand because of their upbringing. 

(Here is a example of the use of slang and this is the reason why its targeted at a specific audience)

Gender

The reason why we targeted mainly a male audience is because of the main character being a male, also there will not be very women featuring in the film this could be put off for women to watch the film but this doesn't mean women can't watch the film because other factors as it being a thriller film or other women might prefer films with males means its suitable for them to. as well as this the film predominantly deals with male problems for example the use of violence and strong language, this is something you don't expect women to do or watch.

Local Audience

Again slag is a big factor of why we would be targeting local audiences, people from England would relate to it more than a person from Spain as the way people converse is different and the slang that young people use is different, as well as this if a person is familiar with the surroundings in the film (setting) it would interest them because they can relate to it. Because our film is targeting a local audience i think our film would be featuring in small indie cinemas like ones in Brixton and Greenwich. 

Evaluation Question 7

      <PRELIMINARY>

The difference in our preliminary and actual movie edit is huge as the quality in all aspects is higher.

Editing

For example using our editing skills we developed by using Premiere pro to practice different features. In the video above we haven't used any transitions or effects on the video, however in our movie edit we used many like (Warp Stabiliser) to make videos more stable and less shaky. we also used titles in order to give it more of a opening sequence feel with transition on how they appear and disappear on screen. For example a use of developing our own ideas is in our opening sequence as in once of the scenes we used a glitchy effect by cutting small clips between other clips this is a skill we have adopted through the process.

Camera Work

We have learnt and developed many skills from the preliminary task for example using new equipment like the Fig-Rig which helped us film moving shots or more natural shots then using a hand held but being able to keep the camera steady, we also used a LED light which you see in our opening sequence where we add a blue to give it a colder feel. We developed skills such as being able to vary our shots as you see we use establishing shots - close ups, also we used focus pulls to give a shot a added effect to keep the audience at bay from what they where going to see. something we learnt and didn't change was the 180 degree rule which is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. change was the 180 degree rule

Also we kept the rule of match on action:- Cutting on action or matching on action refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. And Shot reverse shot:- Shot reverse shot (or shot/countershot) is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.

Sound

(EXAMPLE 3: Using A soundtrack and Sound Effect)

We've developed using sound in different ways from using relevant soundtracks to using sound effects. One thing we learned is when using soundtracks they have to be relevant to the genre for example our genre was thriller and we used a down beat track that also we learned that if you cut and make the beat in time with the different shots which gave it a better effect and made it look cleaner overall. The use of sound effects can be very effective for example when the was a shot of josh dazed on his chair towards the end we used almost a flash bang effect to show how he was feeling.

Mise en scene

(EXAMPLE 4: Using Costume to distinguish characters)

The skills we've developed and learnt through mise en scene are the use of costume and what a difference it can make for obvious reasons such as: it wouldn't make sense for a person in a horror film dressing really posh. so in our film we used mise en scene to differentiate characters such as our protagonists and antagonist which where normal casual/smart clothes and tracksuit and a cap to show he was more lower class and the bad guy in the film. We also used props for example the murderer was carrying a baseball bat and a gun at times to show he was the bad guy and differentiate him form the boy who was murdered who was carrying a expensive phone.

Practice Shots

Clip 1 Skateboard)

This was a very effective shot by the use of focusing on a moving object, our first attempt was out of focus, so we focused jay in a moving shot which made it much more Sharpe and more effective.

Clip 2 Clock)

This shot took a lot of time to get right, we had to change the height of the tripod but it wou8ldnt reach so we lowered the object to get a more slick shot.

Clip 3 Bottle and Legs)

we done a another focus pull but this time with the focus being changed from one object to another, this was a effective shot as we slowly revealed the object creating tension for the audience

Clip 4 Phone)

we couldn't get this shot right and it is very difficult to pan backwards and focus on an object. everyone found this very difficult but if done right it can be a very effective shot.

Filming Schedule

This is the filming Schedule our group have timetabled to know when we will be filming, what shots and whats needed there. we are hoping to be able to film everything by Tuesday 13th of Febuary

Character Profile's

The image above i think best suits the older brother who is looking for revenge on his younger brothers killers as the way he dresses is relevant to the culture surrounding our film, the snapback (hat) shows that he's a urban character and the language he uses may be for a younger viewer, which attracts a younger audience as they understand and can relate to the characters. also stereotypically people with hoodies are considered to be bad or causing trouble which his Aaron is not until his brothers murder occurs. we named the character Aaron as we feel this is a stereotypical upper-class name such as William. We feel his age should be around 21

This character is Aaron's younger brother Oscar who is a innocent teen who gets caught up in something that wasn't to do with him which resulted in his death. he would be like a average teenager who likes to play football with his friends, and play computer games at home. unlike his brother he doesn't have connections with friends who are in gangs and is a innocent boy. we think his age should be around 17, also we think he would dress a lot like his brother because he looks up to him as a big influence in his life from what he wears to how hr acts.

This is Ricky who murders Oscar. he murders oscar because he sees oscar and his older brother Aaron whiteness a murder. Aaron would be your stereotypical "Chav" or hood rat who hangs around shops and in parks. he's a very intimidating character who thinks a life of crime with his gang friends is a good pathway.  following the stereotype he would be wearing a hoodie at all times, baggy jeans and some trainers also i feel he should wear a man bag. we feel Aaron should be around the age of 20

This is Fraser "right hand man" Ricky. i feel the stereotype of someones "right hand man" is someone who thinks very alike to there leader and agrees with him a lot and follows the same views as Aaron does, Also i feel he would be wearing the same clothes or similar as he aspires to be him, he is involved in witnessing oscar see the murder and informs Aaron. i believe his age should be around 18 as someone who's younger usually looks up to someone older.

Backing Tracks & Sounds For Our Opening Sequence

I chose to consider Mensa as a track for our opening sequence as the sound would suit a thriller sequence as the sounds are quite mellow and would feel like this would be played at a funeral, as it is a revenge thriller, and death will occur it seems relevant to the story line.

Beachhead a track that i also discovered that would be relevant to a revenge thriller. although this track can come across to be slightly up beat it creates a confused feel for the audience and make them question why this backing track is being played with the events that are portrayed in the film.



Dunes is a track i feel would be relevant to a revenge thriller as well mostly because of the piano used which sound very deep and gloomy, it would create a very dark atmosphere and make the audience feel very weary of what is going to happen in the film.


Leaves in the pool is another track i found which could be useful for our revenge thriller, the piano used creates a down beaten tone and makes the atmosphere very melancholy, this would let the audience know something sad happens or an bad event.
